Curriculum Vitae

Specialization: Multicultural Relations, Sociology of Law, Theory

I joined the sociology faculty at Texas State in the fall on 1994. I received my B.S. in criminal justice (1981) and my MAT in sociology (1984) from Southwest Texas State University , and my Ph.D in sociology from Texas A&M (1990). My research interest is in the area of sociology of law. Specifically, I am interested in the American criminal jury as a source of social power. I find it interesting to take a historical view on the inclusion and exclusion of different social groups from service on criminal juries. My most recent project centers on the views of African Americans on jury service and social justice. I teach the Sociology of law, Sociology of Sport, Multicultural Relations, and The Sociology of Medicine. I also serve as Graduate Advisor.

I enjoy jazz music, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
