I received my Associate of Arts degree (1988) from Hartnell College in Salinas, California, a Bachelor of Arts degree from San Jose State University (1991) in Child Development, and my Masters of Arts and Ph.D in Sociology from The University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.  My interest in sociology stemmed from my undergraduate courses in Sociology of Education, Mexican-American Studies and Women¹s Studies at San Jose State University.  I have a number of research interests that includes Social Stratification, Race, Class and Gender, Sociology of Health, Illness and Aging, Latino Sociology and Qualitative Research Methodology.  Currently, my research has focused on researching the psychosocial experiences and quality of life of long-term breast cancer survivors¹.  My research aims at understanding the socio-economic and cultural differences between White and Latina long-term breast cancer survivors.  In the future, I intend to conduct research on Cancer Health Disparities among race and ethnic populations.  Some of my favorite past-times are: playing basketball, playing baseball, playing football, ride my bike, listen to music and take nature walks.
