Welcome to Andrea's Web site!

My name is Andrea Ewing and I am currently a senior at Texas State University - San Marcos.  In December of 2007 I will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Sociology, with a minor in Mass Communications.  As part of my degree program I have had the opportunity to participate in a 300 hour internship for my last semester in school.

St. Jude Medical is dedicated to making life better for cardiac, neurological, and chronic pain patients worldwide through excellence in medical device technology and services. SJM has thousands of learning hospitals, and research centers around the globe, and is invested in making education it's top priority.

My first month at St. Jude Medical, in Austin, Texas, I worked in the academic affairs program.  Here I learned all about all the different cardiovascular and neurological problems affecting people today and all of the products SJM has to cure them.  Through this department I got the opportunity  to travel to San Francisco to assist with their Annual Nurses Symposium, and I got a chance to watch a live surgery as a surgeon was transplanting a SJM Pacemaker into a man's heart.  This month I am working with the marketing department, in which I am learning all about SJM's clients and learning how to create and maintain customer relations.  One of the projects that I am working on for the marketing department is helping to complete and design a product overview brochure for the top ten products in each of SJM's four major cardiac focus areas which include: cardiac rhythm management, atrial fibrillation, cardiac surgery, and cardiology.   For my final month, I will be working in the sales department.  Here I will have the opportunity to shadow sales reps in the field, and see what an average day is like for them.  This will also help to expand my knowledge on medical termanoligies, and creating and maintaining great customer relationships.

I have truly enjoyed all of the time that I have been able to spend with the people at St. Jude Medical.  I am extremely greatful for all of the knowledge and experience that I have gained and will be able to take with me in the future.  All of the people at SJM are amazing!  They took me in from the very beginning and made sure that this internship would be an experience that I would never forget!  If anyone is considering a career in the medical industry I would highly recommend them applying for an internship with St. Jude Medical in Austin.  If you have any questions or comments feel free to contact me at ae42595@hotmail.com.
