Amy Peirce and ECI Homespun

My Education

I am currently a senior at Texas State University. I am in the process of completely my degree in Applied Sociology. I will graduate in December 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Sociology with a minor in Popular Culture Studies.  For information about Texas State University or the Department of Sociology, Links to their websites are provided at the bottom of the page.

ECI Homespun

ECI Homespun is an organization which benefits society on a large scale.  This particular group provides numerous services to families and their children who are less than three years of age and are developmentally delayed.  ECI Homespun is unique in its services as they are provided within the children's natural setting such as their  home.  The staff at ECI includes licensed therapists, counselors and service coordinators which allow the families to recieve the variety of services required to fulfill a child's full potential.  ECI Homespun is state and federally funded which allows them to provide evaluations and assesments at no cost to the families.  The help provided is not only focused on the child in need, but is available for the whole family.  Because growth and development are so rapid in the early years of life, the earlier problems are identified, the greater the chance of eliminating them.  In order to fulfill this goal, ECI Hompespun promotes development and learning, support for families, coordinating services, as well as the need to decrease the use for costly special programs.  For more information about this organization, there is a link to their website at the bottom of this page.

The Benefits of my Internship

Throughout this semester I have personally gained a great deal through my experiances at ECI Homespun.  I have not only built on my skills as a professional but also on my personal views.  The importance of  well organized paper work and documentation has been emphasized while I've been interning.  I thoroughly have grasped the benefits of documenting everything and the proper ways to do so.  I have also grown in my development of professionalism as I have learned the appropriate ways to act while entering the homes of those we help.  Not everyone we help is open to it, so it is important to hold back any emotions or opinions regarding someone else's child.  Personally, I have focused on what is truly important to me.  As I briefly enter the worlds of those that we help, I see the struggles and hardships in which they must deal with daily.  It has emphasized the importance of helping others and doing all that is possible in the bettering of society.  IF you would like to contact me, my email address is located below.
