| The Eden Alternative is a
small not-for-profit organization making a big difference in the
world. Based on the core belief that aging should be a continued
stage of development and growth, rather then a period of decline. The Eden Alternative is seeking to remake the experience of aging around the world. The bulk of our work to date has been in de-institutionalizing the culture and environment of today's nursing homes and other long term care institutions. |
My
Internship with The Eden
Alternative allowed me to have exposure to a new non-profit
organization. Through this experience, I have a greater
understanding of the process of running and funding a non-profit
organization. I assisted the Education Coordinator in preparation
for ongoing Education Seminars as well as tracking the outcome of the
seminars through surveys. Through my special project, a
literature review of The Eden Alternative and my work at Eden, I have
gained more insight into the
importance of having evidence based research to support non-profit
agendas.
This experience has increased my
desire to pursue more education and experience in research and grant
writing. A special "thank you" to The Eden Alternative Staff , Professors Hickman and Mosel-Talavera, and the entire Sociology Staff for their support, encouragement, and assistance through this program. |
