Applied Sociology Internship Program

Hey
everyone, my name is Burleigh Lufkin and I am an applied sociology
major at Texas State University. I am planning to graduate in
August of 2007 with my BSAS and a minor in Business
Administration. As a part of the internship program of the
sociology department at Texas State, I chose to intern at The CE Group in San Antonio,
Texas. The CE Group is a very successful marketing company that
includes public relations, events, event planning, and destination
services. I chose to intern in the public relations and marketing
department, and it has proven to be an experience more than
worthwhile.
From
day 1 I have gotten the chance to fully experience the industry of
public relations. By attending all meetings with my assigned
associate, I was able to really grasp the details and thought planning
that go on behind closed doors of these companies. Also, in these
meetings, I have the chance to give my full input on any
situation. The associates at The CE Group really appreciate all
interns and make us feel as though we are a part of the family.
In addition to working with these clients, the marketing director
ensures that we are utilizing our opportunities at hand. Many of
the assignments we complete are recommended to be added to our work
portfolios and weekly task reports keep us organized in the workplace.
I
have been taught many important concepts during my internship at The CE
Group. Documentation is often stressed at the job, and we are to
keep track of any sort of research that we conduct or any email that we
send or receive. I've also learned that creativity and
differentiators are what keep you at the top of this business;
something that the CE Group has proven to do for over 16 years.
