My internship at
Meals on Wheels and More has been such a fulfilling experience. I have learned about working in a professional environment, with experienced guidance from my site supervisor, the Vice President of Client Services.
I have learned about the operations of a non-profit, from funding to volunteer coordination, I received extensive training in many different areas of the organization.
I completed a quality assurance survey of new clients during my internship. This was helpful to Meals on Wheels and More in figuring out what immediate issues and concerns could be addressed for the new clients. I have used my research and data analysis skills
and have also come to understand how important client service is for Meals on Wheels.
I have been helping facilitate communication between Meals on Wheels and More and The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services. These two organizations work together to provide home delivered meals to those in need but there is sometimes a lack of
communication. I compiled information from Meals on Wheels and More's database and submitted it to The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services to demonstrate the where the concerns were. This greatly helped Meals on Wheels and More with funding because
The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services will reimburse Meals on Wheels and More for the services provided for some qualifying clients.
I have learned about program development at Meals on Wheels and More. I worked closely with a social worker in putting together information for a welcome packet for an upcoming respite program. This was helpful for Meals on Wheels and More in that it lessened
the amount of research that needed to be done by one person. I also learned about working as a team to reach a goal under a deadline.
