On the long road home back to Texas after Shelley King's September tour of the East Coast
ABOUT ME:
My name is Jarrod Becak and I am a senior at Texas State University. After a healthy academic
career, I have finally reached the end of the road for my college experience, and will Graduate
in december of 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Sociology. I am Currently interning at
Lemonade Records out of Austin Texas. Upon the beginning of my pursuit of a degree in Sociology, I
originally
wanted to be a social worker. However, as my graduation drew
near, I decided to change my
life goals and to
pursue a career in the field of music. Being a musician myself, I
hope to take the skills
and knowledge gained
from my internship with Lemonade Records, and apply it to my own rock

MY INTERNSHIP:
As
an intern at Lemonade Records, I have
the privilege of working along side the Shelley King Band.
In fact, I work directly under Shelley King herself. The goal of the internship is to train me in the ways
of rock. Actually, I am learning the various duties of band management. As a management, advertising,
publicist and booking assistant, I take part in all aspects of music management. This includes developing
press releases and researching different markets to find publicity opportunities. Specifically, this includes
news print, radio television and web publicity. I currently work to secure feature articles in the press to
advertise for the Shelley King band. In addition to publicity, I also book performances which begins with
researching and selecting various venues and locations for performance. Aside from the managerial aspects
of the job, I also got to accompany the band on a three week tour of the eastern coast of the
United States of America.
