Oscar Montes' Internship Expierience
My Internship Expierience
This semester I
had an
awesome opportunity to intern in the Human Resource Office of Cornerstone Hospital.
The opportunity was made possible through the Texas State
University Applied
Sociology Internship Program. Cornerstone Hospital
specializes in long
term acute care of patients. The hospital has 133 beds designed
to bridge
the continuum care of medically complex patients. In every
business
you have customers, and in Human Resources your customers are your
employees. Part of my duties is assisting employees with
documentation regarding
leaves of absences, FMLA, short term and long term
disabilities. I
also maintain and keep track of all medical staffs’ licenses to make
sure the
hospital is performing under state and federal guidelines. A
recent project
I had a chance to participate in was the new hire orientation.
The project
included revamping The Employee Handbook as well as the New Hire
Packet.
What I like most about my experience is that it is challenging, but not
overwhelming. Everyday brings someday interesting and
different. I
have enjoyed my experience so much that I will be pursuing a career in
Human
Resources after graduation.
