The
Austin Children's Museum
The goal of the Austin Children's
Museum is to “create learning experiences for children that equip
and inspire the next generation of creative problem solvers.” The children’s museum is a learning museum,
where the exhibits promote education as well as a fun experience.
Full-Day Summer Camp 2007
My name is Paul Johnson, and I am currently interning at the
Austin Children's Museum. My specific job is assisting in the
full-day summer camps that are offered at the museum. These
summer camps have different weekly themes such as engineering, animals,
the science of cooking, and even robotics. These camps are open
to children from ages 7-10 for the duration of the summer. The
camps serve as an educational program in which the kids can have fun
and learn at the same time. Every week the children are taken on
field trips that are related to the week's theme. Along with
these field trips, the children are given lessons and activities
relating to the theme as well. This internship has allowed
me to gain valuable experience with children, while at the same time
allowing me to make observations on the social behaviors and
concepts involved in an educational setting.
