My Goal is to receive my
Bachelors Degree in Applied Sociology with a minor in Business on
August 11, 2007. I would like to pursue a career in Juvenile Probation
and in the near future go to graduate school to get a masters in
Finance.
My Internship
My
name is Roxanna Flores and I did
my internship at the Caldwell County Juvenile Probation Department in
Lockhart, Texas. I choose to do my internship with this department
because it was close to home and I felt that it would be a great
opportunity for me to give back to my community. While at my internship
I got to use my knowledge in sociology to help children over come
obstacles and to better their life chances. I also, got to meet
some of the best Probation Officers around that really enjoy what
they do and were willing to give me some advice. I got to see how the
children are detained, released, taken into detention, read their
rights, and attended court hearings. The most educational part of my
internship was when I got a chance to supervise the children that came
to do community service hours. I really enjoyed doing this part
because, not only did I help the children, but I also became more
comfortable being an authority figure. Do this internship really let me
decide that this is the career path I want to take. Below you will see
a picture of my job
site which use to be a detention center, but was later change into
office and storage space. Now the children are transported to Hays
County Juvenile Detention Center in San Marcos Texas. You will also see
a picture of me in my own office space at Caldwell County and a picture
of the garden the kids planted. In the
background you will see the County Court House.
This
is my Job Site.
We
handle all cases that are referred to this office beginning with Class
B misdemeanors on up. They can either be put formal or informal
probation, cases range from truancy tickets, criminal mischief, sexual
assault, and murder. This office has four Probation Officers one of
those being certified to do intensive supervision.

Juvenile departments use case worker to keep track of their clients.

We try to keep the kids
busy here so that they can stay out of trouble and also find ways to
help them make their community hours.
